Book of the Swordkings

When King Galifar united the five nations of Khorvaire, he chose seven elite warriors to stand as his personal guard. Each was trained to be the finest protector imaginable, their skill unmatched. These warriors were known as the Swordkings, the guardians of the one who forged a new era. After King Galifar’s death, the Swordkings vanished, leaving no trace of their existence. For decades, their legacy faded into myth—until The Prophecy whispered their names once more. Not long after, the first of their ancient books was discovered in a long-forgotten ruin.
There are seven Books of the Swordkings, each containing the four most powerful techniques mastered by these legendary warriors. Upon finding one of these books, a creature can spend a week studying and practicing to learn a single technique. Once the technique is mastered, the book mysteriously vanishes, teleporting to a random location, leaving only a mark upon the skin of the one who unlocked its secrets.
Swordking of Fear Voran d’Tharashk (Male)
- Terrifying Gaze: As an action, you choose a target creature within 60 feet. For the next minute, while you maintain concentration on the gaze, the creature is paralyzed.
- Phantom Dread: As an action, you call forth the phantoms of your defeated enemies. They appear around you in a 20-foot radius. Any creatures you choose within this area become frightened for 1 minute.
- Shadowed Chains: As an action, you move up to your speed in a straight line, ignoring creatures in your path. For each creature you pass through during this movement, shadowy chains rise from the ground and restrain the target for 1 minute. While restrained, the targets cannot regain hit points.
- Harrowing Shout: As an action, you release a blood-chilling shout. All creatures within 60 feet of you are stunned for 1 minute.
Swordking of Joy Serina d’Lyrandar (Female)
- Burst of Euphoria: As an action, you inspire heroism in your allies. For the next minute, all allies within 60 feet gain a +20ft. bonus to their speed and a +5 bonus to attack rolls.
- Inspiring Touch: As an action, you touch a friendly creature. For the next minute, the creature gains 50 temporary hit points.
- Angel’s Landing: As an action, you move up to 120 feet, ignoring creatures in your path. When you finish the movement, choose any number of unconscious creatures; they regain 50 hit points.
- Harmony’s Embrace: As an action, you emit an aura with a 30ft. radius centered on you. At the end of each of their turns, any creatures you choose within the aura gain 10 temporary hit points. Additionally, at the start of a creature’s turn, if it has temporary hit points from this ability, it loses them and is healed for an amount equal to the hit points lost.
Swordking of Sorrow Malrik d’Cannith (Male)
- Weeping Strike: As an action, you unleash a powerful melee attack. Choose a creature within your melee reach and make an attack against it. On a hit, the creature has disadvantage on all ability checks, saving throws, and attack rolls for the next minute.
- Mournful Presence: As an action, you create an aura of despair with a 20-foot radius centered on you for 1 minute. Creatures you choose within the aura have disadvantage on all ability checks, saving throws, and attack rolls.
- Sapping Grief: As an action, you touch a creature within 5ft. The creature takes 5d10 necrotic damage, and you regain hit points equal to the damage dealt. This damage cannot be reduced by any means.
- Lamenting Wail: As an action, you whisper haunting noises. For the next minute, creatures within 30 feet of you cannot take actions that require skill checks.
Swordking of Anger Elara d’Orien (Female)
- Unleash Anger: As an action, you unleash a flurry of slashes upon a target within reach of your melee weapon. Make four melee attacks against the target, then move to the opposite side of it as part of this action.
- Furious Charge: As an action, you move 30 feet in a straight line, ignoring creatures in your path. For each creature you pass through during this movement, you may make a melee weapon attack against it.
- Blink Rage: As an action, you disappear from your position and reappear adjacent to a creature within 60 feet. You then make two melee weapon attacks against that creature.
- Brutal Slash: As an action, make a melee weapon attack against a creature. On a hit, the attack deals an additional 3 weapon damage dice.
Swordking of Tranquility Sarehi d’Medani (Female)
- Still Waters: As an action, you create an aura with a 60-foot radius centered on you for 1 minute. Allies within the aura have resistance to all damage.
- Silent Reflection: As an action, you touch an allied creature. You may remove any number of conditions affecting that creature.
- Peaceful Aura: As an action, you create an aura with a 30-foot radius centered on you for 1 minute. Enemy creatures within the aura cannot make attacks.
- Calm Before the Storm: As a reaction, when you are targeted by an attack, you can redirect the attack to another creature within range of the original attack.
Swordking of Envy Korvas d’Deneith (Male)
- Mimic’s Grasp: As a reaction when you see a creature casting a spell, the spell is counterspelled. On your next turn, you can cast the same spell without expending a spell slot or material components.
- Jealous Blade: As an action, choose a weapon you can see. For the next hour, the weapon in your hand becomes a copy of that weapon.
- Steal the Spotlight: As an action, you create an aura with a 20-foot radius centered on you for 1 minute. Creatures within the aura cannot take reactions. Additionally, whenever a creature scores a critical hit, you cancel it, and your next attack is an automatic critical hit (no attack roll required).
- Envious Reflection: As a reaction when a creature you can see hits another creature with a melee attack, you create an illusory duplicate that strikes the attacker. The attacker takes damage equal to the damage it dealt (no attack roll required).
Swordking of Pride Alyssia d’Phiarlan (Female)
- Majestic Strike: As an action, you make a melee weapon attack against a target. For every 5 points by which your attack roll exceeds the target’s AC, double the damage dice of the attack.
- Imperious Stance: As an action, you assume a regal stance. For the next minute, while you do not move, you are immune to all damage.
- Prideful Glory: As an action, you bolster yourself with unwavering confidence. For the next minute, while you do not move, you automatically succeed on all saving throws.
- Commanding Presence: As an action, you command a creature you can see. The creature must comply with your order (it does not need to understand you or be intelligent; it simply complies).
