Khaz’s Burning Retribution
5th-level evocation
- Casting Time: 1 action
- Range: 90 feet
- Components: V, M (a piece of charcoal or a black candle)
- Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute
You envelop a creature you can see within range in dark flames that burn inward, growing hotter with each passing moment. When you cast this spell choose fire or necrotic. The target must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, the target takes 6d6 points of damage from the chosen type and is ignited in magical flames for the spell’s duration. On a successful save, the target takes half as much damage and is not ignited.
While ignited; with fire the target sheds bright light in a 30ft radius and dim light for an additional 30ft., with necrotic the target spreads darkness in a 30ft radius, treat this darkness as if it was created with darkness spell. These magical flames can’t be extinguished by nonmagical means.
At the end of each of the target’s turns, it must repeat the Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, the target takes 2d6 damage of the chosen type, plus an additional 1d6 damage for each previously failed saving throw on this spell cast (the flames intensify). On a successful save, it only takes the accumulated damage dice and does not increase the damage.
At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 6th level or higher, the initial damage increases by 1d6 for each slot level above 5th.
